Better Sleep, Step-by-Step

Some babies sleep through the night earlier than others. Here are some tips
that I have found to help my newborn sleep through the night.
· Make sure baby has a clean nappy (simple, but important!)
· Get into “sleep mode”—Don't play or socialize too
much around bedtime.
· Make sure lights are very low and it is quiet for baby’s last
feeding of the day.
· After feeding and burping, then it’s straight to bed.
· Dress baby in a light sleep outfit and put baby into LullaBag.
If baby cries during the night try the following (in order) before
feeding again:
o Wait 5 -10 minutes to see if she calms down on her own
o Talk softly to her
o Rub her back
o Change her position
o See if she will suck on her hand or fingers to calm herself down
o Check to see if she needs to be changed
o Pick her up and talk to her
Only if none of these things work will I feed her again before morning. This
has helped to get her on a very predictable schedule.
Remember, all babies are different and some will sleep better than others at
an early age. Try a number of techniques to see what works best for you and
your baby.
